Jasmine Watson

When I downloaded TikTok as a bored, home-bound millennial during the start of the pandemic I never expected it to become a platform where I found a group of indie authors just like me. I also did not expect for friendships to blossom from this group, affectionately titled “BookTok” on the platform.

Jasmine is one of these friends, and as soon as I started brainstorming guests for Candid Convos with Authors she popped in my head right away as someone I needed to interview. Her book, Torn, had been released September 2021 and had stunned the BookTok community with its gorgeous cover and captivating story. And, to the relief of many, it was the first book in a series titled Verse of Grimm, which means Jasmine’s fans can excitedly and happily await Torn’s sequel.

What I love about Jasmine is the way she relentlessly and passionately promotes her book on TikTok. Her presence is so endearing on my feed, and her content always puts a smile on my face during my scroll sessions. It is easy to support independent authors, but it is almost second nature to support an author like Jasmine, whose love for her book and the community who supports her shines through daily.

I hope you enjoy our conversation, despite the lag and spotty connection we actually cover a lot of ground on what it’s like to be a fantasy author, the challenges of writing a sequel, and what is next for Jasmine!
